What is expected of parents, and why

This may seem daunting at first, but we (leaders of all the groups) are parents as well, and know that ambiguity and less-than-straight-talking lead to confusion. The comittment you make to your child and the pack ensure a safe and enjoyable time for all.

Leaders of all 3 groups give their time on a voluntary basis - therefore any time that parents can give us is always most appreciated and ensures that the groups continue to run.

What is expected of parents

  1. Has your child any conditions (physical, mental, emotional, dietry) that we should be made aware of?
  2. You need to ensure you child turns up in full uniform.
  3. You need to pick up you child at the agreed time promptly.
  4. You need to assist at pack meetings three times are year (mimimum).
  5. Your childs attendance at St George's day parade is compulsory.
  6. Your child is expected to attend two church parades (minimum) a year.
  7. If your child is going to (or is missing) three meetings in a row you must inform one of the Pack leaders.
  8. You will act in a mutually respectful manner with fellow parents, the children, and leaders.
  9. Subs and association fees must be paid promptly
  10. You have wirtten you childs name on every peice of clothing and property they come to cubs in

And why

  1.  The saftey of all the children is our first concern. The more you tell us, the safer we can be.
  2. Building self respect is one of the movements main tenants. Uniform is part of this process.
  3. The hall is used by all the Aldersbrook community, and is well subscribed. When our turn is over we need to leave the hall promptly.
  4. We need helpers each week. We also need the feedback from parents on how to improve the activities. Children also see their parents in a different light. The packs only run due to everyone taking their share of the tasks.
  5. This is part and parcel of the Scouting promise.
  6. This is part of our comittment to St. Gabriel's.
  7. We do not have enougth spaces for the local demand.
  8. A core scouting value is to instill respect for oneself and others. This is achieved by example.
  9. We are a voluntary group, all money is for insurrance or cubs materials. We do not run with a float.
  10. We have found that Cubs regularily leave coats, scarves, shoes behind, and without names it is difficult to return to the parents.

The scouting pack is what we make of it

Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Parents, SAUGA members, Leaders, helpers, volunteers: The scouting group belongs to us all, and is a result of all our efforts. Please never be afraid to voice an opinion, or suggest a change.

Joining the group

Priority is given to:
1) Beavers passing up to Cubs, Cubs up to Scouts etc.
2) parents who become helpers.
3) members of St. Gabriel's parish.
4) Families living locally.
