Supporters of Aldersbrook Uniformed Groups Association

SAUGA – An introduction What is SAUGA SAUGA, Supporters of Aldersbrook Uniformed Groups Association, exist to raise funds for the local Beavers, Brownies, Cubs, Guides and Scout, organisations based at St. Gabriel's, which are all run by volunteer unpaid leaders and their assistants. These funds go to hall fees and covering the costs of activities, equipment, and leader’s uniforms, allowing the leaders to concentrate on the children and subscription fees to be kept to a minimum.  How do we raise funds? Over the years SAUGA has organised successful events of many types. In the last 12 months we had a very enjoyable Oktoberfest evening at Brading Crescent, our famous Plant Sale at St Gabriel’s Church Hall, and most recently saw the welcome return of the Cameo Opera to a packed Brading Crescent for Spring Into Opera. The funds raised at these events are wholly assigned to the uniformed groups apart from a small contribution to the cost of St Gabriel’s annual Christingle service at Christmas each year, for which SAUGA provide and make the Christingles themselves. What’s coming up? Our next event is the world-famous SAUGA plant sale which will take place at St Gabriel’s Church Hall again on May 1st 2010 at 11am. All manner of plants are available from bedding to ornamental to vegetables and fruit. There will also be a selection of garden tools, canes, fertilisers and growbags. There will also be plenty of experts on hand to advise you. All helpers are welcome especially those with a bit of horticultural knowledge. How can I become involved? As the parent of a child who is in one of the uniformed groups in Aldersbrook you are automatically a member of SAUGA. We always welcome new members to the committee whatever level of commitment they have available. The SAUGA committee is small and informal would welcome more input from parents for our various fundraising activities. We hold meetings when necessary to discuss and  organise upcoming events. Preparing for events is (mostly!) great fun and very rewarding, we really enjoy the fun and effort this takes, but we always welcome extra help - particularly from the parents of children in the uniformed groups. If you would be willing get involved, or help in any way, please do get in touch by emailing us at info@sauga.org or through our website, www.sauga.org or telephone me on 020 8532 9997. We are very grateful to the leaders of the uniformed groups who put in a lot of their time for the good of our children, and we really enjoy taking our chance to show them our support in this way. You would be most welcome to join us! Matthew CharlesSAUGA Chair
