What's New in scouting this week?

Each week we will have a task or challenge for all the beavers, cubs, scouts, parents and leaders to attempt.

This weeks challenge is photography and nature

 This weeks challenge (16 november 2011)

Greg King presented photos of nature (leaves, trees, frogs etc) from the local area to cubs last friday. He advised on techniques on taking this type of photo The challenge is to take a picture of local nature, and email it into the competition williamjflaherty@gmail.com . The competition closes this Saturday evening. Each beaver/cub/scout and enter up to three photographs. Please send as an attachement to williamjflaherty@gmail.com. This has been extended for one week, competition ends 27 November 2011

Challenge number ranruns for two weeks starting from 22 October.Same conditions apply ( email the answers tThe challenge is: Using only eight points of the compass, and using st gabriel's church steeple as the centre. Give the nearest point of the compass direction to the following landmarks:The esso garageWanstead tube stationThe green man roundabout

Challenge number three, was: maps, and was won by Scouts Edward, Cubs Gabreil and Thomas, and Beaver George Go to the Map Challenge page. There you will find symbols from the Ordnance survey maps. To complete the challenge you need to identify what these symbols are, and email the answers to williamjflaherty@hotmail.com as in previous weeks the first correct answer will win a prize. A good resource for maping information can be found at the ordnance web site 

Challenge number two was what direction does the majority of TV dishes point towards? Work it out, or follow the http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-15125287  The answer was south east,
